Doctor’s advice or mother knows best?
Chloe is such a big girl! She is 14.5 lb and 25.5 inches long! She is called our little Chloe bear, chunky monkey (she plays with her feet more than she plays with her hands) our little peanut and little Bit yes all fun nick names. Her Doctor’s visit went very good, the immunizations put her to sleep most of the day yesterday so today she is ready to play. She has been eating rice cereal for about a week now and loves it! She even brings her mouth to the spoon, and is learning where her tongue goes. She is getting very independent all ready she doesn’t want to be held all the time and likes her space when she is sleeping. .. hum sounds a lot like me.
So our doctor came in and said that she is healthy and we are doing a good job, Yay we passed the 4 month cheek up. Then he asked how the sleeping patterns are going, she will sleep for about 7 hours until she wakes up and wants to nurse, it takes some time to get her to sleep, around 1-2 hours at night and she will not take an afternoon nap, how she can stay wake for so long is beyond me. He then said that when it’s time to go to sleep, she should be placed in her bed when she is drowsy and have her go to sleep on her own, if she cries and she will then let her cry it out, come in every five minutes and put your hand on her and tell her it’s all right and then leave for another five minutes and then repeat this cycle until she has fallen asleep. Do not pick her up, that will undo all that you have been working for. It will be hard at first but it will get better for you. OK WHAT is he talking about? I find joy in rocking her to sleep, I only have so long until she doesn’t want to be held and I want to cherish those quiet and intimate moments while I still can. I have some problems with this advice, 1. She is 4 months old she needs cuddling time 2. As a mom isn’t it your right to soothe her when she needs soothing? 3. I don’t like hearing her scream when I know all I have to do is hold her to calm her down. I know that eventually we will have to deal with a “bed time ritual” we have one that we don’t deviate from it’s small and not always the best way , but we have one, and part of that is holding her until she goes to sleep. So what do you say? I would love to hear your comments because the thought of letting her cry it out is crazy. Do you think I am right in holding her since she is only 4 months or is she old enough to self soothe herself? And isn’t there a law when it comes to babies, you can never spoil them enough? For now I will hold her when she is upset, and hold her while she falls asleep.

2309 Ellis Ave, Iowa Falls IA

Our back yard is beautiful, I have never had a pond/water feature in our yard so it should be intresting to see if we can keep up with it. and the top part of the pond is heated so you can have fish live in the water all year round!

Here are some pictures of our new house, it looks like I am going to be busy learning a whole bunch about landscapes and plants, who knew? The front yard has three maple trees! The house has 4 bedrooms, and a big kitchen with an eat in kitchen, and a formal dinning room with a huge living room that we can play wii sports and not bump into each other! the master bedroom is huge, big enough to keep chloe's crib in it until she is ready to sleep in her room, one of the rooms has cabinets and an office space, so that will be our office and/or my craft room. We are so excited to move into it, I am happy to have a regular size oven and lots of counter top space. the formal dinning room is big enough to fit two tables, a desk and a china hutch, see the picture you will be amazed at how big it is. The living room is also huge bigger than the formal dinning room, we get to look at furniture for the living room since it's so freaking big! and it has two bathrooms. Gary and I are so blessed that we found a house so fast and didn't have to try and build something. I Feel like Iowa Falls is were we belong and I am so excited to be part of their community! We close on the house on June 30th...Can't wait!

Iowa College of Pharmacy 2009 Graduation

Gary's a Doctor!
wow! when I think of all the amazing things that have happen this is one of the most incredible moments in my life, to see Gary become a doctor was amazing. I am amazed that all this hard work finally paid off. I remember going to bed at 10pm and saying good night to gar and then waking up around 2am and seeing him still studying away. or seeing him stay late at the college coming home and studying and then waking up early to go back to school at 6:30am to study, I thought this would never end but it did. Looking back the time went so fast, it seemed like just a while ago he was a P1 (pharmacy student year one) Then as a P2 I thought there is no way one single person could read and retain so much stuff as he did, yet he did, and then as a p3 I was so happy for only one test a week and then looking forward to the spring semester when he hardly had home work... Then rotations, wondering what on earth is he going to do with his career, who is he going to sign onto, where are moving too, or are you serious about a residency? All the unanswered questions that every one wants to know, with no great answer. I am grateful that Gary has had the opportunity to go to school and be transformed into this amazing guy I know and love! So it is with all my love that I say I love you and Thank you for all your hard work, it's paying off and I can't wait to start our new life in Iowa Falls with you!

Iowa Fall

pictured above is Iowa Falls, where we will be living!
This weekend was one of the best weekends I have had since Chloe, one of those weekends when everything you have worked for finally paid off. Friday my mom took my sister and I out for an early mothers day lunch, I was able to celebrate my first mothers day with all those who love me (more later.) I was able to fit into most of my before preggo outfits Yah! Friday afternoon Gary got the call we have been waiting for all week, Yes Iowa Falls Hy-Vee would like Gary to start working there! He would be a great addition to the team and sooner than later they would offer Gar the management position, so then it will be "his" pharmacy!
Saturday, Mel (mother in law) and I was able to go to Pella for Tulip Time with Chloe. It was a beautiful day but very windy, we didn't stay as long as I thought we would, Chloe did not enjoy all the tulips I think the best time she had was while we were waiting in line for an hour at Jarsma for some Dutch Letters! Chloe was inside, and wide awake wanting to look around, of course she had fans while waiting in line so they talked to her and she would smile, if I only knew that Jarsma was the place Chloe wanted to be, we would have been there earlier. I was able to see some of my friends from Iowa City, I miss them so much. We had fun looking at the tulips and seeing all the fun things the downtown square had to offer. I forgot how crowded Tulip Time is, We were lucky to find parking! After Tulip Time we tried to go to the Central Book Store, It closed at noon, so no central clothes for Gary or Chloe, oh well.
Sunday Gary and I had a great mothers day, spending time with family is always enjoyable, especially when they come from out of town. Uncle Edd and Kim came to visit for Mothers Day, it was so great to see their little boy Jessie. Mother's day for me was so nice, Gary got me my first precious moments of being a mom, its so cute titled, "A Love Like No Other" I also was able to receive a beautiful China Hutch from a dear friend from church that didn't want it any more, it's so amazing, just what I have been waiting for since I knew we were going to get a house. So Gary and Joe (brother) moved it for me.
It was wonderful weekend, one of those that seem to unreal to be real. I am amazed at how many people love me, and support us. It's amazing that Gary will be a Doctor in less than a week and that he has a job waiting for him. I am filled with love for all those mom's that do what they do best by caring and nurturing their children. I am so blessed to have Chloe, what an amazing thing it is to have a baby in your arms that's yours.

Come What May and Love It

What a cutie? I have decided to embrace her big blue eyes, I was so hoping for green eyes since all of Gary's family and I have green eyes it was a no brainer right? oh well what can you do?
As much as I wish I could say we are going to live _____ ( insert best possible place to live) We still do not know where we are living, a week until graduation and we still have no idea. however Gary did interview in Iowa Falls and we are hoping for a job offer. I guess technically Hy-Vee has to provide him a job because he has signed on with them but who knows?
So with all of this uncertainty i have embraced Elder Wirthlin's talk Come what May and Love it. This realization came at the time when I needed it most. If we are meant to go to Iowa Falls I wonder why and who in their right mind would want to live there? I came across his talk when I was feeling why us? It taught me that you have to have adversity in your life to become stronger and to find who you really are while relying on your faith and testimony of Christ. the phrase "Come What May and Love It" has changed my out look on many things, it first makes me grateful for the amazing things in my life. It makes me look back on the things I have overcome and what I have learned, and it makes me realize that what I have right now is what we need. As I was pondering this I couldn't help but to think at what an amazing life I have and what Gary has created for Chloe and I. I am one of the luckist mom's that get to stay home because we don't need two incomes, I get to embrace my true role as a mom to nurture my family. Thank you Gar for going to school for 10 years to get a job so I can nurture our family, it means so much to me that you love me so much to go school and to work just so I can stay home and take care of Chloe, I couldn't ask for anything more in my life!
I have included the talk from Elder Wirthlins talk "come what may and love it"
that has inspired me to view my opposition in a different light.
